Medication is like coffee: it won’t have the same effect on everyone. A cheek-swab DNA test is helping Kiwi doctors personalise medication, reducing the trial and error often associated with new meds.

It save months of trying anti-depressants, or relying on a neighbour’s advice on cholesterol-lowering medication, according to Ventures – the group which brought the medical advance to New Zealand.
