Professor Ahmed Al-Jumaily
Director, Institute of Biomedical Technologies
Professor Al-Jumaily is internationally recognised for his research in biomedical applications, particularly using acoustics, vibrations and electroactive polymers in biomedical systems, and on pressure oscillation as an effective tool for lung therapeutical treatments. This includes using vibrations to relax contracted airway smooth muscle and developing a lung model to determine the response to pressure oscillation in obstructive sleep apnea.
Under his leadership IBTec, a leading world-recognised institute at AUT, has over 60 postgraduate students, postdoctoral and associated researchers from national and international universities, hospitals, research organizations and has strong industrial links.
He has written over 250 international publications including three biomedical books for the American Society of Mechanical Engineers. He is a member of more than 11 international professional societies and on the editorial boards of several journals.
