My research areas are in optogenetics and medical devices. The optogenetic research is targeting a new treatment for Parkinson’s disease with better efficiency and far fewer side effects compared to deep brain electrical stimulation. I am progressing the science and technology for the implantable device. I am also developing wearable devices for improving pelvic floor health. this technology, and the associated support services, offer the prospect of greatly reducing urinary incontinence issues experienced by 1 in 4 women. This technology is a medical device and I have responsibilities for the Design Control in addition to technology development.
