MedTech Bites May 2018
Welcome to our new look – MedTech Bites which is a combined CMDT and MedTech CoRE newsletter. This better reflects the intertwined nature of the two communities and we hope that it provides you a better picture of our industry-research network. An emerging theme for 2018 for the CMDT and the CoRE has been “scale to accelerate growth.”
For the CMDT, this is around exploring new international research, clinical, business and investment partnerships for our medtech sector. The recent NZ MedTech Mission to Texas Medical Centre, jointly led by CMDT and Callaghan Innovation, allowed the delegation of 10 companies and seven MedTech CoRE researchers to get a better understanding of the opportunities in the largest medical complex in the world. The CMDT and Callaghan Innovation are now working towards developing academic, innovation and business portals to help port NZ companies and researchers into this innovative ecosystem.
At the other end of the scale, the CoRE has been developing programmes to help the research community upskill their ability to successfully translate technologies into the market. The first of a series of upskilling workshops was held in early May to help entrepreneurial researchers and their industry partners understand regulatory compliance and the need to have in place processes that will facilitate market entry into main export markets.
For more information on these two initiatives, contact us on the CMDT/MedTech webpage.
The Healthtech Week Innovation & Investment Workshop on 14 June picks up on the “scale to accelerate theme.” An expert panel will be sharing personal insights and experiences to help our emerging businesses build a toolkit to tackle the various stages of commercial translation.
