TIKI Tour Hits Wellington

The second Technology Innovation and Knowledge Interchange (TIKI) Tour hosted by the Ministry of Health (MOH) and CMDT recently took place at the beginning of September. This pop-up showcase of NZ medical technologies was brought to the Ministry to initiate a conversation around innovation and research in healthcare.

The nine companies taking part in the TIKI Tour provided a glimpse into the latest developments in medical devices and digital health. These covered a range of areas including muscle function measurement and rehabilitation (Stretch Sense and AbleX Healthcare), digital health platform for clinical decision making and therapy management (ARANZ Medical), early cancer detection (Volpara and First Check), technology for pelvic floor management and therapy (JunoFem), technologies to support patient safety (Veriphi and Conporto Health) and medical technology educational support (Virtual Medical Coaching).

Alongside four research groups working on complementary technologies in breast mechanics, stroke prediction and rehabilitation, and early diagnostics of Parkinson’s disease from the MedTech Centre of Research Excellence and Brain Research NZ contributed to the TIKI Tour.
The TIKI Tour supported an opportunity for companies and researchers to come together and network with key decision makers and staff from the Ministry of Health and ACC, creating a forum to help develop vital market strategies.
“The opportunity to talk about our work from a commercial perspective was the most beneficial to me,” said Jennifer Kruger, CEO JunoFem, one of the MedTech CoRE’s newest spin-outs.

“The TIKI Tour connects Ministry of Health staff with people out in the sector doing great things with technology” according to Eileen Duddy, Business Partner, Emerging Health Technologies from theMinistry of Health’s Technology and Digital Services Business Unit.

“The challenge for NZ is to start building channels to adopt these new such technologies in a more systemic way. “

TIKI Tours have now become an integral event for the CMDT, MedTech CoRE and its industry affiliates since its inception in 2015. The CMDT partners with District Health Boards and the Ministry of Health to design specific interest tours that meet the needs of our hosts.
