Research Acceleration Programme (RAP)

Our third round of RAP Stage I Collaboration and Ideation proposal submissions closed today at 12pm. Our next round’s deadline is 25 July at 12pm. The funding guideline documents are on our website – please reach out to medtechresearchnetwork@auckland.ac.nz if you have any questions.


We are now pleased to announce that the projects below have been successful in our first funding round for the RAP Stage III Acceleration fund. All 4 projects invited to submit proposals were awarded funding. Congratulations to the successful teams.

  • Point of care assessment of oxidative stress – Anthony Phillips et al

  • Low-cost, equitable APS – Novel wearable light-based glucose sensor – Chris Pretty et al

  • Fixing Drains: a secure, comfortable and accessible drain retention system – John Windsor et al

  • Preparing for commercialisation of a tool for the management of hydrocephalus – Simon Malpas et al

Upcoming TTM Events

  • TTM Manaaki Sessions for Clinicians and Researchers Next session 2nd June 7pm Who are you as a Tiriti partner and how does Te Tiriti apply to your research and/or clinical work? The manaaki sessions are a safe online space for both Māori and non-Māori alike to participate in open discussions around our understandings and experiences of Te Tiriti.   • TTM Future Leaders Speaker Series: RAP funding – what is it and how do I get it? Friday 10th June 1pm – 2:30pm, Various locations The Te Tītoki Mataora Future Leaders Module are excited to announce the first in-person instalment of our speaker series! If you are an EMCR working in medtech or brain research, come along and hear how you can use the RAP fund to connect with others and strengthen your research. This session will be held live at four venues across the country, and live-streamed. Join us in-person (lunch provided) or via Zoom. More info on venues and registration can be found here.

  • Callaghan Innovation HealthTech Activator - European Medical Device Market Access webinar Tuesday 14th June 9am – 10:30am This webinar will provide participants with an overview of the European regulatory landscape for medical devices, including key considerations for successful market entry. Tune in to learn about: Key regulatory considerations, including Quality Management System (QMS) requirements and authorised representation; EU and UK regulatory developments and the role of health economics in evaluation; Trends in European medical device regulations and key public resources for NZ companies.
