APPLICATIONS FOR SUMMER STUDENTSHIPS NOW OPEN

Are you a high achieving tertiary student studying in New Zealand? Do you have an interest in health and medical technologies research and development, and making an impact on healthcare for communities?


If so, we want you to apply for our paid studentships!


The Te Tītoki Mataora & ABI Summer Studentship Programme provides paid 10-week studentships for Māori, Pacific, and other New Zealand tertiary students to experience what conducting health and MedTech research is really like.

  • Work on a project that matches your interests and abilities over summer 27 November 2023 to 15 February 2024.

  • Receive $6,750 as a tax-free stipend.

  • Access a range of cultural support and upskilling opportunities via workshops, training, networking, and events.

  • Collaborate with supervisors and students from Te Tītoki Mataora's national network.*

  • Make a difference for your community by contributing to cutting-edge research in a range of fields including brain research, medical device and digital health design and development, experimental physiology, computational modelling, software/algorithm development, clinical translation of new medical technologies, and more.

This year we have three types of studentships you can apply for, depending on your background and preferences. **

  • Te Tītoki Mataora Māori Pathway Summer Studentships: For students of any ethnicity wanting to undertake a kaupapa Māori studentship with Te Tītoki Mataora partner institutions.

  • Te Tītoki Mataora Pacific Summer Studentships: For students of Pacific descent wanting to undertake a studentship with Te Tītoki Mataora partner institutions.

  • ABI Māori & Pacific Summer Studentships: For students of Māori and/or Pacific descent wanting to undertake a studentship at the Auckland Bioengineering Institute (ABI)

To be eligible for this Programme, you must:

  1. Be a current student at a New Zealand tertiary institution;

  2. Be available to work on your summer project full time (10 weeks / 375 hours) from 27 November 2023 to 15 February 2024 (excluding Christmas);

  3. Be interested in health and medical technologies, and in making an impact on healthcare for communities; and

  4. Complete our online form here by 12pm Monday 2 October 2023.

*Te Tītoki Mataora partner institutions include AUT, Universities of Auckland, Canterbury, and Otago, Victoria University of Wellington, Te Whatu Ora Te Toka Tumai Auckland and Waitematā, and others across New Zealand.


** Note that all accepted students can access all activities offered via the Programme.
